Choose Your Own Hours at Assist

At Assist HomeCare we try to cater for everyone's needs. We require staff to fill work slots 24 hours a day so you can choose your own hours. Whether your a single parent wanting to work school hours or just need a casual night time work as a second job, if your suitably qualified we will find work to suit your needs.

Becoming a Self-Employed Contractor for Assist

The essential requirements of our contractors are as follows: A Caring Nature, provision of an acceptable offender history check, a current manual handling certificate, evidence of an acceptable qualification for the type of services you provide, a current senior first aid certificate, a mobile phone or home phone with a message service, a high degree of honesty and integrity and attend one of Assists orientation sessions prior to the commencement of service delivery.

Your responsibilities as a Contractor

As a self employed contractor providing services to Assist HomeCare there are certain things you are responsible for. The essential elements of which are summarised below:

Assist Personal Accident Insurance Cover

Assist has taken out personal accident insurance cover to help protect our  support workers.  Please contact our office for further information on this insurance cover.

Income Tax

It is your responsibility to register as a self employed contractor with the Australian Taxation Office and provide us with an Australian Business Number. We can assist you in obtaining this. You are also responsible for keeping concise records of all of your income and expenses.

Occupational Health and Safety

Under the Occupational Health Safety and Welfare Act 1986, you are, as a self employed person required to take reasonable care to protect your own health and safety at work and avoid adversely affecting the health or safety of other persons through your own acts or omissions. You will generally be working in client's homes, which are generally uncontrolled environments. As a result we may ask you to conduct and Site Safety Inspection prior to commencing work.

Motor Vehicle Insurance

You must have appropriate car insurance cover if you are required to transport clients for Assist in a motor vehicle. You should advise your insurer so that they are aware that you will be transporting clients on behalf of Assist.

Procedure for Registering as a Contractor

If you decide that you wish to proceed with your registration as a contractor to provide services for Assist Homecare, you will need to do the following: Send us an application letter and a resume, requesting an Assist application form. Complete the application form and provide us with details of three referees. Include original copies of your current police clearance, First Aid Certificate (if appropriate), Manual Handling Certificate and proof of any qualifications you may have. Assist will then notify you when to come in for an interview and our next  Orientation session that you can attend.
